JoyceDeWitt first performed on stage when she was 13 years old. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ball State University. The director recommended that she apply to UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. There she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA, she worked as a secretary before making her first appearance on TV in the show's episode Baretta.Contrary to rumors that she was mentored by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has claimed that they have did not meet. DeWitt is well-known for her performance as Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 season of the sitcom Three's Company, a job she was offered following her casting in the show's second pilot. Janet also appeared in an episode of the show The Ropers in 1979. DeWitt made her acting debut in an episode in 1984 of Three's Company. She made her return on stage in the month of June in 1991 in which she appeared on an episode of the Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! A character that was based on her voice, voiced by a different actress, was in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. The actress was also featured in an episode Cybill. The 2000s work of her include TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
